BiographyDaoine S. Bachran's studies focus on ethnic American literatures. She is particularly interested in science fiction, the American Gothic, 20th and 21st century written and visual texts, and science's engagement with race and class. She is currently working on her dissertation, From Recovery to Discovery: Ethnic Science Fiction and (Re)Creating the Future, which examines ethnic science fiction’s response to scientific racism and erasure. It interrogates how writers of color use science fiction to reclaim technology and reveal how dominant culture(s) have used technology against them. It addresses the scientific histories of human genetics, nuclear fission, and digital and computer technology to argue that speculative fiction by Black, Native, and Mexican American authors re-imagines dominant paradigms for understanding history, the present, and future possibility. | |
