Biography

Dr. Ying Xu received her BA and MA in English at Sichuan University, China and her Ph.D. in English from the University of New Mexico. Her specialized areas include nineteenth-century American literature, Asian American literature, literary criticism and theory, immigrant writing, and Chinese women writers. She is Term Faculty in the Department of English at UNM, offering composition, technical communication, and literature courses. She is a contributor to OUPblog (Oxford University Press) and contributed to “Edith Eaton (Sui Sin Far)” and “Angel Island Poetry” on Oxford Bibliographies. Her articles have appeared in a variety of scholarly journals, and the most recent one, “Teaching Asian American Literature and the Law in the Land of Enchantment: A Case Study, ” is included in MLA’s special collection in Teaching Asian North American Texts. Besides teaching and scholarly work, she is also a translator. Her recent translation of Leslie Silko’s Ceremony, published by Zhejiang Publishing Press of Art and Literature in China in 2023, is the first ever Chinese translation of Silko’s work. She is currently translating Joy Harjo’s Crazy Brave into Chinese.
