Biography

Katherine Marie Alexander holds a Master’s of Music Degree (M.Mu.), a Master’s Degree in Literature (M.A.), and a Ph.D. in British/Irish Literature with concentrations in Romanticism, Victorianism, and Criticism and Theory. Her scholarship focuses on the lives and works of Dorothy Wordsworth, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, and Emily Brontë with specific emphases on the dimensions of time, space, and philosophical perspectives. Although she uses many theoretical lenses in her writing, the critique of representation offered by Gilles Deleuze, French Poststructuralist philosopher, is her favorite together with connections to Quantum Theory. A retiree of the University of New Mexico, Katherine continues teaching through the English Department. She often works as a professional pianist, and is also an organist, guitarist, and Irish harpist. An integral part of her community in arts and music for many years, she has been a ballet accompanist (including Spanish classical ballet), a choral accompanist on both piano and organ, and a choral director. In keeping with her work on representation, she also paints in watercolor (including Chinese watercolor), and acrylic and writes in at least twelve calligraphic alphabets. She is passionate about multiculturalism and diversity.
