BiographyDarian Wharton is a PhD student in British and Irish Studies at UNM, researching all things related to the Gothic Novel. She graduated from Asbury University with a BA in English and Actuarial Mathematics. She completed her MA at the University of Dayton with her thesis “Monsters and Body Horror: The Expression and Annihilation of Cultural Anxieties” in 2024. Darian’s interest is deeply interested in how Gothic stories and anxieties change for the culture they are written in and is exploring how Scotland, Ireland, and Wales’s expression of anxiety within Gothic novels expressed themselves. She is also interested in how people become monstrous within narratives of anxiety.
