BiographyMarisa P. Clark has been teaching creative writing, composition, and queer literature at UNM since 1999. In addition to a PhD in fiction-writing from Georgia State University, she holds degrees in psychology and 20th-century American literature from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her prose and poetry appear in many literary magazines, including Shenandoah, Cream City Review, Nimrod, Epiphany, Foglifter, Free State Review, Sundog Lit, Texas Review, and Verse Daily. In 2011, Best American Essays recognized her nonfiction among its Notable Essays. She has served on the editorial staffs of New England Review and Five Points, among others, and has been the Faculty Advisor for UNM’s Blue Mesa Review on and off for 15 years. A proud member of the queer community, she grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, came out in Atlanta, and makes her home in Albuquerque with three parrots, two dogs, and whatever wildlife and strays chance to visit. Her debut poetry collection, BIRD, comes out in spring 2024. |
