Biography

Sara Vigil is currently a PhD student in American Literary Studies in the English Department at the University of New Mexico. She earned  her M.A. in English Literature in 2015 and her B.A. in English and Secondary Education in 2012, both from New Mexico Highlands University. Her research focuses on the impact that patriarchy and nature has on identity development in Chicana/o Literature of the American Southwest. She has presented her research at the Southwest Popular/American Culture Association Conference in Albuquerque, NM (2015), and her Master's Thesis was a literary analysis of texts by Chicano author Rudolfo Anaya and Native American Laguna Pueblo author Leslie Marmon Silko.

Before moving to Albuquerque to pursue her doctoral degree, she was a full-time faculty member at Luna Community College in Las Vegas, NM, where she taught American Literature and English Composition. She also served on LCC’s Faculty Senate, Curriculum Committee, and Assessment Committee, as well as the New Mexico Curriculum and Articulation Committee.
