English Department Graduate Students and Engineering Graduate Students attended UNM Day at the Roundhouse state Capitol building in Santa Fe on January 28th, 2019 with GPSA to propose Capitol Outlay projects for renovation and community improvement. The projects will increase job growth and retention in the state of New Mexico, allow students across disciplines and New Mexico businesses to participate in a maker’s space to learn new technologies such as 3D printing and augmented reality, and create collaborative project development. The proposal will also fund much needed health and safety updates to the graduate student space in the Humanities building, replacing carcinogenic carpets and unsecured doors. Renovations could improve the health and safety of hundreds of graduate students and over 4,000 undergraduates affected by these outdated workspaces. The collaboration between English and Engineering is foundational for creating ADA compliant signage and opportunities for our UNM community and put UNM on the map as an innovative destination university with community impact.
Students in attendance from the English department included: EGSA co-presidents Dalicia Raymond and Sarah Worland, EGSA Treasurer Emma Mincks, EGSA Secretary Jerry Lavin, and EGSA member David Puthoff
