Instructor Unfortunately Passes Away

It is with much sadness that we report the sudden and unexpected passing of Marian Hessink, Part-Time Instructor in the Core Writing Program. Despite having to navigate physical challenges, Marian loved teaching and was an undeterred supporter and champion of her students, believing in the inherent teachability and learning ability of each student. As a student herself, she enriched every class with her fun and feisty personality as well as vast-ranging knowledge, often providing balance to class discussion. Marian was the spouse of Distinguished Professor of History, Dr. Timothy Graham, an essential faculty member in our interdisciplinary Medieval Studies MA and PhD programs.

Marian’s service was held on August 23, 2024 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish Church.  There was a funeral mass and then catered reception in the adjacent hall where memories of Marian were shared.

Marian will be missed, and our sympathies are with Dr. Graham.
