Creative Writer Passes Away

Jennifer Simpson, a beloved member of the UNM Creative Writing community, died suddenly in the early hours of December 14th.  She was 56 years old. Jennifer was a talented artist, writer, content strategist, and marketing consultant who believed in the power of stories to change the world.  COO & Online Marketing Director of Plume, a Writer’s Companion, Jennifer was an active community builder in Albuquerque. She is survived by her sister, Debby Simpson, of San Diego.

She attended the Taos Summer Writers’ Conference in 2005.  Her participation in the Conference led to her application to the MFA program at UNM. While a student in the MFA program, she served as Managing Editor of Blue Mesa Review.  Her interest in the literary community also led her to establish a reading series called Dimestories. She graduated with an MFA in 2012.

Jennifer worked for many years as a grief counselor for Albuquerque’s Children’s Grief Center. This wonderful organization serves 300 families a year, assisting children who have recently lost members of their family and are working through their grieving process. Donations can be made there in her memory.
