RW Lecturer Awarded a Phillips Fund for Native American Research Award

The Rhetoric and Writing Program’s Dr. Julianne Newmark was awarded a Phillips Fund for Native American Research grant from the American Philosophical Society.  According to the Society, “The Phillips Fund of the American Philosophical Society provides grants for research in Native American linguistics, ethnohistory, and the history of studies of Native Americans, in the continental United States and Canada.”  This grant will support three archival research trips, to the National Archives in Kansas City and College Park, Marlyland, and to Little Big Horn College Archives in Montana. These research trips will bring Newmark closer to completing the archival research that is the foundation of her second book, tentatively titled “Reports of Agency: Retrieving Indigenous Professional Communication in Dawes Era Indian Bureau Documents.”
