Joy Harjo Celebrated at the Library of Congress in D.C.

On September 19th, our very own Joy Harjo became the 23rd (and first Native American) U.S. Poet Laureate.  Her inaugural celebration and performance at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. was attended by well over 500 people, and the reception beforehand included a number of her UNM English Department friends and colleagues.  Those in attendance included Sharon and Teddy Warner, Minrose Gwin and Ruth Salvaggio, David and Mona Johnson (David was Joy’s first poetry teacher), and the indefatigable Mary Powers.
