Relying on new archival research, &#8220;Thomas Gray&#8217;s &#8216;Adversity&#8217; and Mesomedes&#8217; &#8216;Nemesis'&#8221; explores the hitherto unacknowledged connection between Gray&#8217;s famous 1742 poem and a Greek poem from the second century CE.
