Our deep gratitude to Karen McKinnon for her generous gift which funds this annual award. She enjoys writing poetry and creative fiction. She has been an avid reader and writer since childhood and enjoys writing poetry and drawing in her free time. She hopes to be a successful author in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:9px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>3<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;Place: Julie Linder, &#8220;Je ne suis pas la fille de mon pere&#8221; (I am not my father&#8217;s daughter)<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\">\n<figure class=\"alignright size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"281\" height=\"465\" src=\"https:\/\/english.unm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Linder-Julie.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4120\" style=\"width:184px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/english.unm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Linder-Julie.jpg 281w, https:\/\/english.unm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Linder-Julie-181x300.jpg 181w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 281px) 100vw, 281px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>Julie Marie Linder is an undergraduate student at the University of New Mexico, pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in French. Her writing explores themes of identity, inheritance, and voice, often drawing from personal and intergenerational experiences. She is the author of the children&#8217;s book,\u00a0<em>Calico Zebra<\/em>\u00a0and the nonfiction work,\u00a0<em>Digital Age Skills for Analog Age Minds<\/em>. She is currently working with an editor on a high-fantasy novel series, written under a pen name, centered on legacy, power, and belonging. She is also working on a poetry collection,\u00a0<em>The Unsaid Inheritance<\/em>.
