{"id":3635,"date":"2024-04-29T13:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-04-29T19:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/english.unm.edu\/blog\/?p=3635"},"modified":"2024-04-30T11:39:54","modified_gmt":"2024-04-30T17:39:54","slug":"several-attend-melus-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/english.unm.edu\/blog\/blog\/2024\/04\/29\/several-attend-melus-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Several Attend MELUS Conference"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Society for the Study of Multi-Ethnic Literature (MELUS), held its 38<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;annual Conference hosted by the Southern Methodist University English Department in Dallas this year, and featured paper presentations from various UNM alumnae, graduate students, and faculty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current graduate student, Jeslyn Pool presented, \u201cFeminist Aesthetics of Form within M. Nourbese Philip\u2019s Archival Destruction:&nbsp;<em>Zong!<\/em>\u201d Jeslyn is a first-year PhD student in American Literary Studies and will also be presenting at the 2025 Modern Language Association. Chrysta \u201cKit\u201d Wilson, also a PhD student in ALS, presented \u201cBodies Beyond Borders: Alienation and the Border Worker in&nbsp;<em>Lunar Braceros&nbsp;<\/em>and&nbsp;<em>Keep Me Posted: Logins from Tomorrow<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of our UNM alumnae, Dr. Erin Murrah-Mandril (PhD 2014) co-organized the conference and is currently Associate Professor in the English Department at UT, Arlington. Dr. Diana Noreen Rivera (PhD 2014) presented \u201cAfro-Mexican Roots, Routes, and \u2018Resistance\u2019 in Am\u00e9rico Paredes\u2019s&nbsp;<em>George Washington G\u00f3mez<\/em>\u201d and is Associate Professor in the Department of Literatures and Cultural Studies at UT, Rio Grande Valley. Dr. Amy Gore (PhD 2019) presented \u201cWritten Off: Global Histories of Indigenous Paper and Papermaking\u201d and just published&nbsp;<em>Book Anatomy: Body Politics and the Materiality of Indigenous Book History<\/em>&nbsp;(U MA 2023); she is Assistant Professor in the English Department at North Dakota State University. Dr. Laurie Lowrance (PhD 2021) presented \u201cStorytelling and Collaboration as Resistance and Resilience: Helen Sekaquaptewa\u2019s&nbsp;<em>Me and Mine<\/em>\u201d and is Assistant Professor in the English Department at Schreiner University.
