In the Spring of 2020 under the leadership of former director, Dr. Elizabeth Hutchison the Feminist Research Institute (FRI) board selected Dr. Bernadine Marie Hern\u00e1ndez, Associate Professor of American Literary Studies as the recipient of Distinguished Feminist Research Lecture award for 2021. Due to the disruption of the pandemic, the lecture was postponed until campus operations and extracurricular events on campus resumed safely. Hern\u00e1ndez will deliver a lecture entitled, \u201cBorder Bodies: Racialized Sexuality, Sexual Capital, and Violence in the Nineteenth-Century Borderlands\u201d\u00a0in Spring 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Distinguished Feminist Research Lecture was launched in 2016 and the Feminist Research Institute has recognized a UNM faculty member whose scholarly record of research and publication embodies and reflects the mission of the Feminist Research Institute. Hern\u00e1ndez\u2019s scholarly profile, teaching, and community activism demonstrate her commitment to women of color feminisms and advances an understanding of gender as necessarily linked to race, sexuality, and other social formations.
