First-year Medieval Studies Ph.D. student, Sara G. Flores was awarded a 2022 New Mexico Higher Education Department (NMHED) Graduate Scholarship for Underrepresented Students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Flores currently teaches English Composition as a TA and serves as Graduate Assistant for the Department of English. She is a member of Medieval Outreach, Medieval Studies Student Association, and Sigma Tau Delta. Her recent research involves the treatment of black and monstrous non-Christian characters in Medieval Romances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NMHED Graduate Scholarship was created by the New Mexico Commission on Higher Education to increase graduate enrollment of underrepresented groups at public post-secondary institutions. UNM further sees this as an opportunity to encourage departmental support of students from underrepresented groups toward graduate degree completion. The maximum award amount is $7,200 per year. This award may be renewed annually based on academic standing and fulfillment of requirements. Recipient must receive a minimum of 10-hour-per-week paid assistantship or internship and serve 10 hours per week in an unpaid assistantship or internship.
