Our deep gratitude to Karen McKinnon for her generous gift which funds this annual award.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/english.unm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/Sutanto-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2554\" width=\"152\" height=\"211\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>1<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;Place Mia Sutanto for \u201cRez Life\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mia is a junior at the University of New Mexico and is majoring in English and minoring in Chemistry. She enjoys writing poetry and songs in her free time. She hopes to continue writing in the future while she pursues a career in the medical field.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/english.unm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/armijo-edited.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2555\" width=\"171\" height=\"249\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>2<sup>nd<\/sup>&nbsp;Place Solana Armijo for \u201cThe River\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Solana Armijo is a junior at The University of New Mexico, studying English and German. She is a twenty-year-old New Mexico native with a passion for literature and visual art. Solana is inspired in her art and poetry by what it means to be human, the natural world, and how the little things often have the greatest impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;Place Andrea Chin-Lopez for \u201cCultural Feast\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image is-style-rounded\"><figure class=\"alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/english.unm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/chin-lopez.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2556\" width=\"167\" height=\"223\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Andrea Chin-Lopez is a 4th year dual degree student at UNM studying Biology and English. She plans to pursue graduate school and then ultimately work in either science communications, research writing or science journalism.
