The fellowship honors both established and emerging writers whose work is of exceptional quality. The awards recognize writers who have made significant contributions to English-language literature. The fellowships recognize writers of distinctive literary merit who demonstrate potential for continued outstanding work.<\/p>\n<p>Scenters-Zapico is\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">from the sister cities of El Paso, Texas, USA and Ciudad Ju\u00e1rez, Chihuahua, M\u00e9xico. Her debut poetry collection\u00a0<em>The Verging Cities\u00a0<\/em>(Center for Literary Publishing, 2015) won the PEN American\/Joyce Osterweil Award, the GLCA\u2019s New Writers Award, the National Association of Chicana\/o Studies\u00a0Book Award, and the Utah Book Award.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><em>The Verging Cities<\/em><\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0was also featured in\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><em>Poets and Writers, LitHub<\/em><\/span><span class=\"s1\">, and the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><em>Los Angeles Times<\/em><\/span><span class=\"s1\">. Her second book,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\"><em>Lima :: Lim\u00f3n<\/em><\/span><span class=\"s1\">\u00a0is forthcoming from Copper Canyon Press.
