The streets are all closed and 50,000 people convene to celebrate the year&#8217;s best books.<\/p>\n<p>One of the featured panelists at the Young Adult Headquarters tent was Erika L. S\u00e1nchez, who graduated with distinction with an MFA from UNM in 2010 and received numerous fellowships and scholarships to continue her writing after graduation. She is currently a\u00a0poet, novelist and essayist whose work has been published internationally, and in several languages. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chicagotribune.com\/lifestyles\/books\/ct-books-i-am-not-perfect-mexican-daughter-erika-sanchez-1022-story.html\">Recently featured in the Chicago Tribune<\/a>, she is certainly making a name for herself.<\/p>\n<p>At the Young Adult Headquarters, S\u00e1nchez spoke on her debut young adult novel,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/545723\/i-am-not-your-perfect-mexican-daughter-by-erika-l-sanchez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i>I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter<\/i><\/a>, which is a New York Times Bestseller and National Book Award Finalist.\u00a0It\u00a0is a poignant but often laugh-out-loud funny contemporary story about a young adult who loses her sister and finds herself amid the pressures, expectations, and stereotypes of growing up in a Mexican-American home.
