Rudy Carrillo, a student in the MA program in American Literature, presented his paper, “At the Intersection of Milton and Borges: Six Sonnets” at the SWPACA Summer Salon Virtual Conference, which was held in June, 2026.
Earlier this spring, Carrillo was honored as one of the featured readers at the opening reception for UNM’s Conceptions Southwest, Volume 49, 2026. Carrillo’s short fiction piece, The Scouts Plus The Party At The Lorlodge appears in that issue.
Carrillo additionally recently published two sonnets in the California Quarterly, Volume 52, Number 2.
Carrillo is an award-winning writer, journalist, cultural critic, and artist based in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is best known locally for his prominent role as the news editor and music editor for the alternative weekly newspaper, Weekly Alibi, where he wrote under the pen name August March from 2014 to 2020. He is an alumnus of UNM, holding a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in experimental media and sculpture. He returned to UNM as a graduate student in 2024, pursuing his Master of Arts (MA) in the English Department, focusing his research on 20th-century transgressive and revolutionary texts. His visual artwork has been showcased in several regional galleries, including the 6o6 Gallery, ASA Gallery, and Graham Gallery/Raw Space. His writing has been published in a variety of journals and magazines, including California Quarterly, Typo Mag, Rigorous, and Unlikely Stories.
